Scott Panetti is on Texas' death row for killing his wife's parents. He thinks the state wants to execute him to prevent him from preaching. Experts think he's mentally ill. Jurors thought he wasn't mentally ill enough.

The sounds of torture in America
In July 2004, five Tennessee sheriff's deputies who suspected Lester Siler of drug use went to his home to question him. When they asked Siler's wife and son to leave, Siler's wife, Jenny, secretly turned on a tape recorder. Siler refused to sign a consent to search his house, so the deputies tortured him for the next two hours. Listen to the tape here (mp3).
